Project introduction

Forest Stewardship Council ® (FSC ®) It is an independent, non-profit non-governmental organization established to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically feasible forest management.

FSC forest certification is a process in which the certification authority evaluates the forest management performance according to the series of standards formulated and the specified procedures to prove that the operators in all links of the forest or production and marketing chain meet the requirements of the FSC standards, and issues certification certificates. Forest certification is a tool to use the market to promote sustainable forest management. It includes two basic contents, namely forest management certification (FM) and chain of custody certification (COC).

In the past 20 years, human deforestation and poor management of forests have caused a large area of forest recession, leading to the global shortage of forest resources, the worsening of the ecological environment, and a serious threat to the human survival space. This issue has aroused the concern of people from all walks of life. They have taken various measures to try to curb the decline of forests and the reduction of forest area, but the effect is not obvious. In the 1990s, people linked the sustainable management of forests with the sales market of wood. Consumers with strong environmental awareness hoped to support the sustainable management of forests by purchasing only wood products from well managed forests. Forest certification is to adapt to this market mechanism and rise, and flourish.

China's forest certification work has started. Under the joint promotion of relevant departments of the State Forestry Administration, the Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) China Project Office, a forest certification working group was established in Beijing in May 2001, which can be said to be a turning point in the process of forest certification in China. In July 2001, the State Forestry Administration established a leading group for China's forest certification work to coordinate the establishment of China's forest certification standard index system, formulate forest certification policies, and study the establishment and operation of forest certification institutions. This marks the start of the forest certification process by the Chinese government.

Forest certification has become one of the hot issues concerned by forestry departments and forest management units in the world and China. Forest certification has become one of the new trends in the world forestry.
